Research and development is close to LSAB’s heart. It is what drives us forward and constantly pushes the boundaries of product development and what is possible. At our unit in Långshyttan, Dalarna, there is precisely the proof of this; multi-year competence that together pushes the boundaries. In Dalarna there is a saying that reads “Impossible…”. It’s exactly what we need to hear and what gives us that passion and spark to make the impossible possible. Our latest bandsaw blades – the Langshyttan LX – are a shining example of this. We pushed the limits and managed to create a product that increased the running time by over 60% over our existing standard.
Several years of development work
LSAB has its own manufacturing, research and development in bandsaw blades and a long-term commitment to developing products that the wood industry demands. The business is centered in Långshyttan (Sweden). In addition to our own resources, the development work takes place with leading sawmills, manufacturers of sawing equipment and universities. The work with new products takes place with a focus on increased yield, increased speed and lifespan of the product.
75% less tendency to crack
Our new LX bandsaw blades have been tested in over 3000 cycles and the results are overwhelming. Our analyzes show that the cracking tendency was reduced by 75%. The explanation lies in our innovation with strengthening of the tooth base and a technology that minimizes the number of unplanned postings and downtime. The reinforced tooth base allows the tooth shape and chip space to be optimized, which leads to increased performance and speed. The LX technology gives the greatest effect at high block heights because the chip removal is greatest there.
+60% longer running time
Our new bandsaw blade LX60 has documented 60% longer lifetime than existing bandsaw blades from LSAB. This means that you need less bandsaw blades, fewer grindings and fewer transports to produce the same volume as before. As we are now fully investing in capacity on LX bands, the volumes of the current bandsaw blades will decrease and they will be gradually phased out.

Kajaani – developed for the demanding Nordic winter environment
Kajaani is the option that is adapted to all our LX bands and specially developed for our Nordic winter environment. For most sawmills, winter presents very special challenges and Kajaani is adapted to the toughest conditions with frozen logs and high feed rates. Kajaani can be selected as an option on our entire LX range.

LSAB and AB Karl Hedin, Karbenning Sawmill have collaborated for several years. During 2022, the sawmill has gradually switched to LX bandsaw blades from Langshyttan and the result has been very satisfactory. The new LX bands have meant that the average running time per band has increased by over 50% and the number of bands discarded due to cracks has decreased by 30%. In the worst case, cracks in particular can mean that there will be a breakdown, and then you often have to discard not just one bandsaw blade, but all the bandsaw blades in the group. Optimized tooth shape enables increased feed speed
CAD drawing on the left shows the possibility of increased chip space with the LX technology. The increased space enables increased feed speed. With 55 mm tooth pitch, the volume increase is 20%, which gives the potential for increased feeding by the same percentage. Bandsaw blade LX LARGE gives great effect on higher block heights.
Lower cost per cubic
The cost of a cubic meter of sawn wood depends on several factors, of which the tool cost is one. LX bandsaw blades have documented a longer running time by +60%, which lowers the cost of tools and service by approx. 20% in theoretical calculations. The assumption is an estimate and may vary depending on how you adjust the posting time, today’s performance on bandsaw blade, etc. Reduced cracking tendency by 75% means a lower risk of breakdown. The cost of unplanned postings and, in the worst case, a breakdown is high. LX band saw blades drastically reduce the risk of cracks, which leads to a lower cost per cubic meter of sawn wood.
